What are the common TDS Sections?

194C - Contractors

Applicable for payments to resident contractors and sub-contractors. 1% for Individual/HUF, 2% for others.

194J - Professional Fees

Fees for professional or technical services. Standard rate is 10%, but 2% for certain technical services/call centers.

2% for Plant & Machinery, 10% for Land/Building/Furniture. Applicable if annual rent exceeds ₹2.4 Lakhs.

What is TDS (Tax Deducted at Source)?

What is the due date for depositing TDS?

TDS deducted must be deposited to the government by the 7th of the following month. For March deductions, the due date is usually April 30th.

When should I issue Form 16/16A?

Form 16 (Salary) is issued annually by June 15th. Form 16A (Non-Salary) is issued quarterly within 15 days from the due date of filing TDS returns.

What happens if I don't deduct TDS?

Failure to deduct TDS attracts interest at 1% per month. Failure to deposit deducted TDS attracts 1.5% interest per month, plus penalties from tax authorities.
